Biography

Dr. Yeoheung Yun has served as Graduate Director and is a Professor for Chemical, Biological and Bio Engineering (CBBE) Dept. He is the Director for Fostering Innovation Through Biosystems for Enhanced Scientific Technologies (FIT BEST) Laboratory and Thrust Leader, NSF ERC for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (ERC-RMB). He Dr. Yun holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati and a BS/MS from Chonbuk National University, South Korea.

Research

Dr. Yun’s research interest is to model brain diseases in vitro. Specifically, he focuses on human stem-cell (iPSCs) based brain tissue construct such as brain on chip, neurovascular glial unit, and organoid. His team develops and utilizes patient-derived stem cell, extracellular matrix (ECM), and microfabrication/microfluidic technology to construct brain tissue to model neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer Disease and to screen clinically-relevant drug/toxic agents. This topic further include mechanobiology, PBPK modeling, hydrogels, and systems biology. Yun’s group is also interested on immunology such as CAR T cell’s interaction on tumor. His long-term goal is to recapitulate complex brain diseases in human and provide new insight for brain diseases.
